Making a Difference with Dads in Shawnee Mission Schools
The community partners in the Shawnee Mission School District are making a difference. The partners at Nieman Elementary host events during the year called Dads' Night. The purpose is to encourage dads to be more involved in the school and with their children. Fun activities are planned to engage dads (or substitute dads) and their children in a project.
This year community partner Pastor Matt Miller of New City Church suggested that Nieman Elementary partners invite nearby Shawanoe Elementary partners to host one big Dads' Night. The combined partners include New City Church, First Baptist Church of Shawnee, Shawnee Presbyterian Church, the City of Shawnee, the Shawnee Police Department, Starbucks, Shawnee Mission Ford, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. It was a BIG success.
"I am so grateful to our community partners for creating and running such enjoyable, positive events for our families," shared Jennifer Korn-Davis, LSCSW, School Social Worker at Nieman Elementary.
Thank you for being a caring community for the kids!
