Superheroes Summer Reading Camp Hosted in KCK
Superheroes inspired the imagination and activities of children grades K-5 in the third annual Summer Reading Camp hosted by Vida Abundante Church, a Frances Willard community partner in Kansas City, KS. This year’s camp, held June 13-17, brought in students throughout the community, representing six elementary schools: Frances Willard, Banneker, Caruthers, Stony Point South, Welborn, and William A. White.
Helping to bridge the summer gap that often occurs with reading and learning, tutors read to and with the younger grades during reading circle time, while the older grades read to their tutor for periods of 20 minutes. In addition, students worked on reading comprehension, language arts, and math, played games, and enjoyed snacks and crafts. The Alcott Arts Center also participated in the camp, leading several art projects centered around the theme of “Superheroes.” View the following video highlights!
